Uber and Lyft hit records with lobbying spending in the USA

Uber and Lyft spent an unprecedented amount of money on lobbying in 2020. Uber spent US$2.5 million while Lyft spent US$2.2 million, according to mandatory lobbying disclosures filed in January 2021. According to the documents, Uber lobbied on issues concerning the future of work, data privacy, and self-driving vehicles. Lyft disclosed it had focused on matters involving labour rules impacting independent contractors, among other issues. Both companies heavily invested in the Proposition 22 campaign in California.
