Publish Time: 09 Sep, 2019

In a statement, Roskomnadzor, the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media, accused Facebook and Google (Youtube) of political advertising at the time of elections in breach of Russian law requiring silence while elections are ongoing. As reported by Forbes and the BBC, Facebook responded that it was up to advertisers to make sure their messages were sent out at appropriate times. Google also denied the accusation, stating that any advertisements complied with local legislation.
