When I reviewed Microsoft's Surface Laptop with the Snapdragon X Elite chip last summer, I was impressed with its snappy performance, fantastic battery life, and overall positive user experience, while noting that it was on the pricey side.
Fast forward a year, and the Surface Laptop from 2024 is more affordable, especially on sale during Amazon Prime Day for $1,178, a pretty significant $350 off its original price of $1,599 for the 16GB configuration. This is one of the biggest discounts still live on any mainstream flagship laptop.

My perception of the Surface Pro was already positive, but on sale, it's even more so -- placing it in line with other machines that offer a lot less at this price. Let's take a brief look at what you're getting.
The (2024) Surface Laptop is Microsoft's flagship laptop, and one of the first Copilot+ devices to be released last year with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Elite processor -- a chip that was a game-changer in the industry as far as power efficiency and on-device AI processing was concerned.
The Surface Laptop has a thin and light form factor available in 13- or 15-inch models, with a 16GB or 32GB memory configuration and 1TB of local storage. The physical form is distinctive and well-designed, available in four colorways that include a rose gold and metallic blue.

The Snapdragon X Elite just feels well-optimized on the Surface Laptop, powering its snappy performance and allowing it to multitask with ease across the Windows ecosystem. Web browsing with dozens of tabs, while connected to an external monitor feels responsive and smooth, a must for me to be considered a main driver.
I also called out the Surface Laptop's fantastic battery life in my review, getting over 15 hours of use from a single charge of near-constant use (not just video playback). Basically, this is a laptop you can get through the workday with on one charge, and at 2.9 pounds, it's light enough to commute with.
My concerns with the Surface Pro centered around a few of the design choices that conflicted with the $1,600 price point. Namely, the lack of an OLED display option, and the limited port options (one USB-A, two USB-C ports, and a headphone jack). But for $350, those concerns aren't as pressing.

If you're integrated in the Windows ecosystem, need a marathon battery, and like the clean design of the Surface Laptop, I highly recommend considering it, as the Prime Day event has officially ended, but this sale is still going.
