If you're in the market for a new gaming laptop, Acer's Nitro V is a 15-inch laptop with solid hardware that won't break the bank. It's currently on sale during Amazon Prime Day for $599, which is $150 off the regular price. Not bad for a laptop with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 GPU and FHD display at 165Hz.

It keeps things affordable with 8GB of RAM and an Intel Core i5-13420H processor, the hardware sweet spot for high FPS cloud gaming. It's also expandable up to 32GB with two DDR5 slots.

The 15.6-inch IPS display has a 16:9 aspect ratio that allows for cinematic visuals, whether you're gaming or video editing. With Nvidia's Ada architecture in the RTX 40 series GPU, you've got full support for ray tracing and DLSS 3.5 upscaling, delivering graphics that look better than you'd expect from a machine in this price point.

So who's the targeted user for this laptop? I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a capable budget machine that can handle a variety of titles, but without a need for expansive local storage. If you're a cloud gamer, this would be an especially great choice, since the display and GPU carry the show.

That's not to say you can't get some good performance from the latest titles, but the 8GB of RAM might limit playing the most demanding games at max settings.

There's a full selection of I/O here, as well (including support for Thunderbolt 4) which is great for hooking up all your peripherals and accessories, including its own ethernet port to jack straight into your connection if you don't want to worry about Wi-Fi. Just keep in mind that like most gaming laptops, it comes with its own proprietary charger.

The battery is one of those areas where its limitations become apparent. All the hardware here is power-hungry, and will limit your play time on battery to a few hours. If you're just using it for surfing the web or everyday tasks, however, you'll get several hours more on one charge.

All in all, I recommend the Acer Nitro V as an affordable 15-inch gaming laptop from Acer's well-respected lineup to anyone who wants a reliable workhorse gaming laptop instead of the flashiest device of the moment.
